1 Peter 5

Serve God Willingly

1 aTherefore, I urge elders among you, as your bfellow elder and a cwitness of the sufferings of Christ, and one who is also a
Or partner in
,
efellow partaker of the glory that is to be revealed:
2shepherd fthe flock of God among you, exercising oversight, gnot under compulsion but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and hnot
Or for dishonest gain
with greed but with eagerness;
3nor yet as jdomineering over
Lit the allotments
those assigned to your care, but by
Or becoming examples
proving to be
Or role models
,
nexamples to the flock.
4And when the Chief oShepherd appears, you will receive the punfading
Lit wreath
,
rcrown of glory.
5 sYou
Or young people
younger men, likewise, ube subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with vhumility toward one another, because wGod is opposed to the proud, but He gives grace to the humble.

6 Therefore xhumble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7having cast all your yanxiety on Him, because He cares about you. 8 zBe of sober spirit, aabe on the alert. Your adversary, abthe devil, prowls around like a roaring aclion, seeking someone to devour. 9
Lit Whom resist
,
aeSo resist him, affirm in your faith, knowing that agthe same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your
Lit fellowship
brothers and sisters who are in the world.
10After you have suffered aifor a little while, the ajGod of all grace, who akcalled you to His aleternal glory in Christ, will Himself amperfect, anconfirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 aoTo Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.

12 Through apSilvanus, our faithful brother
Lit (as I consider)
(for so I regard him), arI have written to you briefly,
Or encouraging
exhorting and testifying that this is atthe true grace of God. auStand firm in it!
13She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings, and so does my son, avMark. 14 awGreet one another with a kiss of love.

axPeace be to you all who are in Christ.
